Read this and, before you write me off as a teo-con bigot, please read it through, keeping your tongue firmly stuck in your cheek. It is actually very true and thought-provoking.
Ten Reasons Gay Marriage Is Wrong

1. Being gay is not natural. And as you know Americans have always rejected unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because, as you know, a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. The sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

I've been campaigning for gay rights since I was barely in my teenage years. People often wonder why, as I am not gay myself, or well, let's just say I lead a very straight lifestyle. Well, I have no idea. I didn't have many gay friends in my teens (I do now, though). It's always struck me as illogic that people should confine human sexuality to reproduction. I will elaborate a bit, soon as I have some spare time.

Due to technical issues (a change in the DNS), my other blog and my photo album will be offline for a few hours. I apologise for the inconvenience. Normal service will resume later today. ;)

A causa di problemi tecnici (modifiche nel DNS), l'altro blog e l'album delle foto resteranno offline per qualche ora. Mi scuso con i miei lettori.

Never go shopping for groceries just before dinnertime, when you're hungry.

You end up buying half the shop.

Ha! How 'bout THIS? Click to enlarge (and blur horribly):

Bobbi Brown, eat ya heart out.

I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Slooooowly.

I just need to perfect the subtle art of blending.

P.S. Can anybody explain to me why, if I post centered images, they are no longer clickable? There must be a bug with the CSS in this template, only I can't for the life of me figure what's wrong.

I wear very little make-up, mainly because I can't be arsed to, but also because I'm hopeless at applying it. Never mastered the fine art of drawing a neat black line along my top lashes.
So I figured I'd follow John Gustafson's step-by-step guide to applying eye make-up. He promises to teach even the most mascara-phobic amongst us (that would be yours truly) "How to get gorgeously sexy, smoky eyes without resembling a hooker on a bad day, caught in the rain!"

Sounds good, innit. Well, I tried it. And I ended up resembling a hooker on a bad day, caught in the rain. Without an umbrella. Ambling out of the cinema after watching some tear jerker. I'll spare you the pics.

Then I tried my hand at the paint-by-numbers diagram, which should be idiot-proof.

Must mean I'm worse than idiot.

So here's the final result: and the pic is crappy and blurry too, for the usual reason (my bf stole my camera è_é Had to use my phone)

OK, OK, I can do better than this. I know. I'll try harder.

Oh, and that is NOT an actual dark circle. I do get my beauty sleep. It's just the lighting and the crappy camera.

I fell in love with Polly's shades (how stylish is she? and her boyf? I remember her from the Handbag forums). Imagine my joy when she told me they were from H&M, and I had a trip to Milan planned for the following day. So:

Went to H&M.
Found them (in black).
Tried them on.
Got laughed at by my best friend.
Reluctantly placed them right back on the rack.

they are HUMUNGOUS. I looked like an oversized fly crossed with Ali G. Sadly, my face, like the rest of me, is too thin.

What a shame, they were gorgeous AND only 5.99 euros. Polly was so kind as to offer to send them over to me. But alas, they really don't suit me...

This sweet ickle baby is now MINE!
My PreciousSSSSSSsssss

As of 12 noon today, I am the proud owner of a black cloche hat just like the one Naomi Watts wore in King Kong.

Yes I went back to check, yes it did come in black, and yes, the size was right. A semi-bargainous 29 euros, reduced from 49. I officially AM a lucky woman. For a million of reasons, including this one.

So, message to Sheila, who asked where to find a hat like this, in the comments a few posts below: if you like the hat I bought, try and see if there's a Coccinelle store near you, with their handy Store Locator.

First day of the sales today. Here's what I bought:

  • aforementioned Coccinelle hat (€29, was €49)
  • Mango coat (pictured, €46, was €94 - how lucky am I?)
  • Mango slingbacks (pictured, €35, were €70) in purple suede
  • Mango top (€16, was €18) - burgundy, ribbed.

Grand total, 126 euros. (That would be about £86, my dearest UK readers). All in all, went over my budget by 26 euros.

Went to Zara too, but the endless queue for the fitting rooms really put me off. I ended up trying on some boots and a camel coat in front of a mirror, surrounded by dozens of madwomen elbowing their way to the till. The boots (stiletto, black, pointy) were huge on the calf, natch.

Even Mango boots are cut big on the calf this season. Maybe they've done some market research and found that customers complain about their calves spilling out of their boots, and zips getting stuck or giving way.

What am I going to do now? ç_____ç Put on weight, that's what.

As soon as I get my camera back, I'll update my shoe gallery with my latest purchases.

Almost. Not quite. But heading in the right direction.

My quest for the perfect cloche hat is beginning to harvest some results. Found this in a shop window (Coccinelle, here in Bologna):

Problem: it's PINK.

I'll go and ask tomorrow (first day of the sales) if it comes in black or grey. If it does, I'm a lucky, lucky woman. No idea how much it is, but things from that shop aren't normally extortionate. Unless they're leather bags.

What if it doesn't fit? ç_ç If it's one size, I bet it's huge.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

Living within five minutes' walking distance from your nearest branch of Zara isn't, in itself, a bad thing. It has its perks. It can also cause considerable damage to your wallet and ingenerate disharmony and unpleasantness between you and your bank manager, if you're not careful.

Still... What's up with Zara shoes these days? And their sizing?

After chatting with a friend about the upcoming sales (they start the day after tomorrow here), and feeling depressed because I learned this morning that my second job interview is next Tuesday (God help me), I decided to pop into Zara to try on a pair of brown, kitten-heeled knee-high boots I'd had my eye on for a while. They were huuuuuuuge on the calf (even with jeans tucked in!), and the leather was very stiff, really uncomfortable. And their size 5 is more like a size six-and-a-half! Even with big, fluffy sports socks.

I remember just a couple of years ago, every pair of Zara boots I tried on fit like a pair of gloves and I just HAD to buy them. I still wear them all, and they're the most comfy shoes I own. But this A/W, I can't seem to be able to buy Zara shoes. Where, o where am I gonna find a great pair of boots under 140 euros? I'm skint, and I need shoes. And I need to build a work wardrobe from scratch. But before I buy anything I need to put on half a stone. That would be 3 kilos. Gosh. That's a lotta weight. OK, I'm off to eat a sandwich now.

BF went home today, and left me alone in a freezing one-room flat. I won't see him for 20 days at the very least, so I needed a bit of retail therapy. I'm still on the lookout for the cloche hat à la Naomi Watts in King Kong. Went to Accessorize, Mango, Zara, Etam... You name it, I went there. No luck.

So, given I have very little money to spend, and because the sales have already started in some shops, I was a good girl and bought:
  • petrol blue pashmina: €3.99
  • blue woollen scarf: €4.99
  • pyjamas: €12.90
  • brown suedette high-heeled courts (see crappy pic taken with phone because bf took my camera): €14.90. Yes, you read that right. Fifteen euros. And they're comfy! I'm wearing them around the house now. They are a very generous size 5 (38), the last pair that was left in the shop apart from a humungous size 7. Put an insole in them and they fit like a glove, worn with thick socks. I'll try a thicker insole so I can wear them with tights.
